Batik An Identity of Indonesia

Batik has become one of the Indonesian identity. Batik from Indonesia is unique. The origin of the word batik can refer to two things. First, the technique of coloring cloth using wax to prevent coloration on most fabrics. In the international world, this coloration technique is known as wax resist dyeing. Secondly, batik refers to fabric or clothing which is made using such techniques.

In making batik is necessary thoroughness and patience, that is why most of batik artisans are women. The word batik is derived from the Java language, while it is not known exactly how the origins of batik to exist in Java.

Indonesian Batik is a technique, culture, and motif, has been recognized and designated by UNESCO as (masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity) since October 2, 2009 Batik is one of the ancestral heritage of Indonesia, especially Java. Batik was introduced to the world stage by former President Soeharto at the UN conference.

In the old days, batik-making requires a long time because the painted batik is made by using a tool called a canting. This kind Batik is known as "batik tulis". This type of batik has artistic value and economic value is quite high. This is because the manufacturing process is very long and requires a very high level of accuracy.

Batik tulis is created ​​on white cloth made ​​from cotton. The white cloth is often known as "mori". Then on one side of the fabric, the desired motif drawn with canting that have been given a molten wax.

After the cloth was covered by the desired motif, fabric dyeing stage will be done. cloth will be dipped into a liquid containing the desired color. This coloring is done over many times depending on the number of colors in the fabric. Once the dyeing process is complete, the cloth will be dipped back into the chemical liquid, so that the wax be dissolved.

With the changing times, batik is not only produced as batik tulis, but now there is another type of batik is batik cap. The second type of batik has a lower value than batik tulis.

Batik cap is made by using a kind of stamp or seal. These devices are mounted on fabric that has been given certain motifs of batik desired.
